Lake Meadow Home Remodel Project

About This Home Makeover

These homeowners had built their Colonial style home some years ago while their children were still young. Now, that their children are married and have children of their own, the family’s dynamic and needs have changed significantly and this home’s floorplan no longer suited their lifestyle. They played with the idea of moving to a new house but decided that perhaps they could remodel their home and make it into just what they needed. That is when I met this sweet couple.

The Lake Meadow home originally had a traditional layout with each room separated by four walls and hallways. It made the space feel much smaller than it really was. It had golden oak flooring, millwork and cabinetry just about everywhere.

We completely reconfigured the first floor to be an open concept. This gave us a large amount of space to work with to fit in everything that they were looking for. This included an update to their existing kitchen, breakfast area, a newly located dining room, a large great room with a beautiful conferred ceiling, a wet bar, and a large fireplace. The first floor bathroom was moved to a new location, and there was space to add a laundry room. We also utilized the mudroom for better entry and storage.

One thing that made this remodel feel original to the house was by adding new custom built in cabinetry throughout and giving them matching door styles to the original cabinetry in the house. All of the golden oak received a new coat of off-white paint. I designed and drafted the plans for the new cabinetry and worked with a local custom cabinetmaker to bring them to life. I also designed and drafted the elevations for the new fireplace and custom leaded glass windows that were added in the Great Room.

Our direction for this project came from the homeowner’s wish for a clean, bright, transitional feel, contrasted with texture and rich and natural wood tones. We developed a clear concept right from the beginning, which lead us through each selection throughout the project. This home was completed with furnishings and all of the details that make this home special and unique.

My favorite part of this project, was not only the end result, but was seeing these homeowners fall back in love with their home. It is now a perfect representation of who they are at this season in their lives.
